The time is getting closer for the release of the collaboration between Virgil Abloh x IKEA. It has been a long anticipated wait for this collaboration but it is finally launching May 10th. This announcement was made last year that they would collaborate on furniture and interior pieces for the home. There is a selection from carpets to chairs.
This collection was made to be described as “a collection of first home must-haves that don’t force you to compromise on who you are”. If you ask me, it’s important that your home reflects who you are! You should feel completely yourself when adding decorative pieces to your home and adding accents that show your friends/family what your about.
One of the focuses to this collection was function but still giving a statement when they are shown alone. He wanted to make sure that although the pieces will stand out, they are still considered fashion pieces. We’ll lets just say “statement” pieces. These pieces of course, challenge traditional pieces in the home but definitely have a more modern twist.
So let me stop ranting about how the collection is like and let’s jump in and see some of the pieces that were created.
Aside from a modern twist, the pieces obviously capture Virgil Abloh’s signature aesthetic. Something to say after taking a look at all the pieces that are releasing May 10th, is that the “KEEP OFF” rug designed with Persian motifs, is already sold out because it was sold in IKEA’s Planning Studio in Manhattan’s Upper East Side neighborhood in NYC. What a bummer! I was really feeling that one!
But like everyone else, we are excited for all the other pieces to launch this MAY!
In the future, IKEA plans on collaborating with other artists/designers such as Craig Green, Misaki Kawai, Supakitch and many more.
Will you be coping anything from this collaboration?
